Hi, I’m Alvin Soon. I’m an award-winning writer and photographer who’s published stories from all over the world.
I’ve co-authored a book, reported from international events, photographed travel stories, interviewed executives from multinational corporations, crafted long-form features, penned opinion pieces, written blog posts, and created advertising copy for major clients.
My work has taken me around the world, from the streets of Cambodia to Apple headquarters, from the valleys of rural Japan to the mountains of New Zealand. One of my travel stories, ‘In Search of Old Japan,’ won the Media Publishers Association Singapore’s Online Photography of the Year award in 2015.
As a curious writer, I’ve pursued answers to the question of what makes a good life and how to live it. I’ve practiced meditation for more than 20 years, completing three 10-day silent retreats, two in a forest monastery in Thailand. I’ve studied yoga and martial arts, including Wing Chun, Tony Blauer’s SPEAR system, and earning a second dan black belt in Bujinkan Taijutsu.
You can find my best personal and client photographs on this site, as well as my discoveries on how to live a life of wisdom, creativity, and strength. Join my free newsletter to get the latest updates.
The Fine Details
I’ve been writing online for more than 10 years, both as a professional writer as well as personally. The earliest posts on this site were first published on Life Coaches Blog1, which I founded and ran for three years from 2005 to 2008.
I’ve been a full-time writer and editor, as well as photography contributor, for more than 10 years under Singapore’s leading magazine company, SPH Magazines. I co-wrote the book HWM MegaGuide: Digital Photography 3.0 in 2012, and my work has been published on both print and online.
